It was honored in 2009 as one of the 100 most influential journals of biology and medicine over the past 100 years. Today, it remains at the top of peer-reviewed journals focusing on birds, with one of the highest Journal Impact Factors among ornithological journals worldwide.

Beginning in 2014, The Auk became The Auk: Ornithological Advances, an international journal that that advances fundamental scientific knowledge in two ways: increase in the basic knowledge of bird species, both living and extinct; and increase in the knowledge of broad biological concepts through studies of bird species.
