AOS Membership: Join, Renew, Update

Annual AOS memberships are valid 1 January through 31 December. Membership categories and rates are listed in detail below.

Members receive unlimited online access to The Auk: Ornithological Advances and The Condor: Ornithological Applications. Your membership also entitles you to unlimited access to the Birds of North America, along with members-only discounts on annual meeting registration and publishing fees and other valuable benefits.

How to Join or Renew

To join or renew your membership, login to the OSNA Member Portal.

  • Apply for or renew your membership
  • Enroll in our auto renewal program
  • Manage your personal profile information
  • Purchase gift memberships in the AOS for students and colleagues

How to log on:

  • Visit the OSNA Member Portal.
  • If you have already set up your account, enter your Login ID, which is your email address, and enter your password. You will go directly to your personal profile page.
  • To set up your account on your first visit to the OSNA Member Portal, click on Forgot Password under the Login boxes. Next, enter your Login ID, which is the email address where you received this message. You will receive an email to reset your password. When you click on the link in the email, this will take you to a page to enter a new password. Once you have done that, you will go to your personal profile page (this is your home page). If you do not receive an email within a few minutes, check your spam folder. If the message is not in your in-box or spam folder, it has probably been blocked by your email system; contact OSNA Membership Manager Scott Gillihan at OSNAmembers@gmail.com to receive your password.

 

Membership Categories & Rates

Please note that all prices listed are $USD.
 

Regular Membership

2019 dues: $90

AOS Regular Memberships are for any individual who does not choose or qualify for another membership category offered. A second regular membership from the same household, or family membership, is an additional $32 per year. 

Student Membership

2019 dues: $32

AOS Student Memberships are available to (1) currently enrolled students from any country at any educational level (pre-college through postdoctoral fellow) and (2) students who are between degree-seeking programs with the intent to re-enter a degree program in the future.

Student Membership Award

AOS encourages any individual who qualifies for a student membership (see above) to apply for a complimentary one-year student membership award. Eligibility is limited to students who have not previously been a member of AOS (including either the AOU or COS). This is a wonderful way to get involved in the society and explore its many benefits.

Early Professional Membership

2019 dues: $55

AOS Early Professional Memberships are available to individuals who have completed their studies and received their terminal degree within the past five years.

Emeritus/Retired Membership

2019 dues: $32

AOS Emeritus/Retired Memberships are available to individuals who have been a member of AOS (including either the AOU or COS) for at least 40 years and who have retired from their professional position but remain active in ornithology. The society salutes your longstanding membership and steadfast commitment to the profession!

Special Countries Membership

2019 dues: $32

AOS Special Countries Memberships are available to individuals who are residents of countries other than the United States, Canada, Israel, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the following Western European countries: Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.

Life Membership

AOS Life Memberships are available for anyone interested in a sustained commitment to the society and its mission. Life memberships are $2,880, and payment may be made in a one-time payment or in four installments of $720. Life memberships require no annual renewal, and the fee contributes directly to AOS’s Council-designated General Endowment Fund.

Contributing Membership

AOS Contributing Memberships are for those interested in providing a higher level of annual membership support to the society and start at $500 per year. Contributing members are recognized annually on the AOS website along with other donors to the Society. The contribution value of the membership is tax deductible to the full extent of the law. 

Gift Membership

Gift memberships can be purchased for one or more individuals. Standard rates per appropriate member category will apply. To purchase a gift membership, log into the Member Portal and click on the "Online Store" tab at the top of the page.
