AOS Senior Professional Awards

The American Ornithological Society bestows four prestigious awards on its members in recognition of outstanding contributions to ornithological science.

Nominations for these awards will be accepted 15 October 2018 through 14 December 2018 at 5:00 PM EST.

Members are encouraged to nominate themselves or their colleagues. Please review the nomination guidelines carefully. For questions regarding awards, email and your message will be forwarded to the appropriate committee chair. The AOS Awards committees strive to develop a balanced annual slate of nominees that represent the Society and includes the diversity of its members.

William Brewster Memorial Award

An award given annually to the author or co-authors of an exceptional body of work on birds of the Western Hemisphere.

Elliott Coues Award

An award given annually that recognizes outstanding and innovative contributions to ornithological research.

Loye and Alden Miller Research Award

An award given annually for lifetime achievement in ornithological research.

Ralph W. Schreiber Conservation Award

An award given annually that honors extraordinary scientific contributions to the conservation, restoration, or preservation of birds and/or their habitats.

Nominations should be submitted online via the Member Portal.

Already have an existing Member Portal account?

If you already have have a Member Portal username and password (e.g., you are a current or previous member of AOS or one of the other OSNA societies), you can navigate directly to the submission form. Please note, depending on your browser settings, you may be asked to log in again. Upon logging in, you should be redirected to the submission form.

Don’t have a Member Portal account or you are not sure?

If you do not already have a username and password, you will first need to set up your free account from the Member Portal login page. Click the “Create a User Account” on the left side of the login page.

If you are not sure if you have an existing account, click the “Forgot your password? Click here” link on the left side of the page and then enter your email address on the following page. If you have an existing account with that email address, the system will send you a link to reset your password.

Once you have your account established, you can navigate to the submission form by selecting “View Open Competitions” in the Awards, Competitions, & Submissions section in the lower right of the screen. On the resulting page, find the AOS Senior Professional Awards competition and click “View”.
