The AOS Awards committees strive to develop a balanced annual slate of nominees that represent the Society and the diversity of its members.

Harry R. Painton Award

An award given in odd-numbered years, if merited, to the author of an outstanding paper published in the four preceding years in The Condor.

Katma Award

An award given, when merited, to author(s) of a publication that offers unconventional ideas or innovative approaches in the study of birds.

Brina C. Kessell Publication Award 

Similar to the Harry R. Painton Award, this award is given in even-numbered years, if merited, to the author of an outstanding paper published in the four preceding years in The Auk. The award was first given at the 2018 Annual Meeting in Tucson, Arizona.
